Lorton Station ES Region 3

Background: The Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III) is a federal grant which requires that spending be used in specific areas. Part of the Fairfax County Public Schools spending plan identifies funding to be used for Unfinished Learning and Student Academic and Social, Emotional, Mental Health (Wellness) Needs. Schools have been given funding allocations to support the academic and wellness needs of students. Schools are required to create plans in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Wellness highlighting the strategies they will use to support these areas using their ESSER III funding. These strategies are shown below.

ESSER III English Language Arts Strategies

Outcome: Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in English Language Arts.

Strategy 1 Plan and deliver data driven guided reading to all students within the reading workshop model.

Strategy 2 Plan and deliver data-driven word study lessons to all students.

Strategy 3 Identify and plan interventions for students not meeting benchmarks and monitor progress throughout the school year.

ESSER III Mathematics Strategies

Outcome: Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in Mathematics.

Strategy 1 Plan and deliver rigorous targeted Mathematics instruction.

Strategy 2 Plan and deliver targeted small group Mathematics instruction based on unit assessments.

Strategy 3 Identify and plan interventions for students not meeting benchmarks and monitor progress throughout the school year.

ESSER III Wellness Strategies

Outcome: Ensure students feel safe, included, and supported in the school environment.

Strategy 1 Provide students with Morning Meetings and Closing Circles to meet their Social Emotional Needs

Strategy 2 Reintroduce the Roadrunner Round Up to all grade levels. This is a monthly grade level assembly that teaches Mindfulness techniques to students.

Strategy 3 Incorporate RULER tools into classrooms.

Background: All Fairfax County schools are also required to complete an access and opportunity goal as part of their School Innovation and Improvement Plan (SIIP) and can also capture additional goals. These are shown below.

Strategy 1 Engage all students in equitable, rigorous learning that is purposely planned and grounded in FCPS curriculum.

Science End of Year SMARTR Outcome

Goal: Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in Science.

Strategy 1 Collaborative Teams will enhance planning practices, leading to explicit instruction of all science SOLs
