Lorton Station Elementary School Named National Title I Distinguished School

Lorton Station Elementary is one of 59 schools across the country that is being nationally recognized for exceptional student achievement in 2013, having exceeded annual measurable objectives (AMOs) on standardized testing for the current and previous accountability years.

Lorton Station Elementary is one of 57 schools across Virginia—along with Belvedere Elementary School—named Title I Distinguished Schools by the Virginia Board of Education. The National Title I Distinguished Schools Program publicly recognizes qualifying Title I schools for the outstanding academic achievements of their students.  The program has been in place since 1996, highlighting the success of hundreds of schools in one of two categories:

• Category 1: Exceptional student performance for two or more consecutive years.
• Category 2: Closing the achievement gap between students.

Title I, the cornerstone of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, is the largest federally funded pre-college education program in the United States.  It provides funding to school districts across the country to aid in the education of economically disadvantaged students.
