Being a Roadrunner Rocks!
10 Reasons Why Lorton Station Elementary Shines Bright
Lorton Station is a vibrant community composed of diverse and enthusiastic learners. Our students contribute unique viewpoints that enhance our academic setting. We are committed to cultivating a collaborative atmosphere among our staff and students, leveraging the wisdom and innovation of our community.
Mentoring Program
Lorton Station’s mentoring program pairs students with adult volunteers and also students to students to provide academic support, social-emotional guidance, and positive role modeling. Mentors and students meet regularly to work on reading, math, or other subjects, and to build strong relationships. The program aims to enhance student achievement, boost self-esteem, and foster a positive school climate.
Collaborative Coaching Team
Lorton Station is dedicated to providing the best possible education for all students. Our coaching team (two math coaches, two literacy coaches, an advanced academics coach, and a technology coach) play a vital role in achieving this goal by supporting teachers in their instructional practices. Through coaching cycles and professional development during team planning time, math, literacy, advanced academics, and technology coaches help teachers develop the skills needed to meet the diverse needs of their students. By collaborating on instruction, supporting Collaborative Learning Teams (CLTs), and providing intervention support, coaches contribute to improved student outcomes.
Our Fabulous Staff!
We celebrate our talented teachers and staff! They utilize innovative teaching practices and are dedicated to helping all students succeed. Most recently we celebrated Mary Ann Cassell, Special Education Teacher who was named the Region 6 Outstanding New Teacher and Fairfax County Outstanding New Teacher for 2024.
Family Learning Center
Our Family Learning Center provides parents and guardians with resources and support to actively engage in their children's education. Lorton Station hosts weekly early intervention reading programs for our Hispanic and African American families from October to May each year. This fosters a strong school-community partnership.
Advanced Academics Placement Clusters
As an Advanced Academic Center Lorton Station students are provided challenging and supportive learning environment that fosters outside of the box thinking. Through differentiated instruction and enrichment opportunities, students are encouraged to think critically, problem-solve, and explore their passions. Our program fosters a love of learning and prepares students for future academic and personal success.
Engaging After-School Programs
Students can explore their passions through a variety of after-school clubs: Chess, Girls on the Run, Math & Science Olympiad, Academic Enrichment, and our Skills Academy.
S.T.E.A.M
Students in grades 3 – 6 are introduced to the wonderful world of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math in the Lorton Station STEAM Lab. Led by our two-time Fairfax Innovation Grant Winner Ms. Atari, students are given the opportunity to work on projects that require them to identify real world problems and come up with creative solutions.
T.R.A.C.K.S
Trustworthy, Responsive, Accepting, Caring, Kind, Safe
Those are the key traits that students need to be successful and show growth. TRACKS is our schoolwide program we use to help foster Portrait of a Graduate traits within our students. We use a combination of daily SEL lessons and student recognition programs to encourage our students to make TRACKS as they navigate their school day.
Our Diverse Staff and Students
Lorton Station Elementary celebrates diversity! Our school community is a vibrant tapestry of cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives.
